ORLANDO, Fla. — Jesse Jackson is in central Florida urging federal officials to block Florida’s new elections bill.
Jackson is making stops Tuesday in Orlando and Tampa to protest the legislation that was signed by Gov. Rick Scott earlier this year.
The law reduces early voting days and adds new regulations for voter registration drives. It also requires voters who make address changes at the polls to cast provisional ballots that may not be counted.
Supporters of the legislation say it is needed to prevent election fraud, but opponents say it will discourage young people and minorities from registering or casting ballots.
Jackson and other opponents are asking the U.S. Justice Department to intervene and stop the law from being enforced.
