The first tropical storm of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season was making landfall in Mexico early Thursday morning.
Tropical Storm Arlene formed Tuesday night in the Bay of Campeche. The storm was making landfall south of Tampico, Mexico. It had winds of 65 mph and was moving west at 9 mph. “It’s big for a tropical storm,” WPBF 25 First Alert Weather meteorologist Sandra Shaw says. “The tropical storm force winds actually extend 205 miles out from the core of circulation.” Shaw says Arlene could bring about a foot of rain to the region, which is suffering through a drought. Too much rain, though, could bring flash flooding and mudslides.
The storm doesn’t pose a threat to Florida.
